Brandeis National Committee Sun Lakes Chapter seeks new members

Geri Gould

You may not know that a wonderful opportunity awaits you on October 2. That is the first meeting of the 2016-2017 Brandeis National Committee Sun Lakes Chapter, a women’s group with local chapters around the country. You need not have any affiliation with Brandeis University to participate, but Brandeis makes some of their wonderfully enriching resources available to local chapters.

Here at Sun Lakes, we meet on the first Thursday afternoon of each month from October through May. Our programs are diverse and typically include book discussions, film discussions, docent tours at local museums for special exhibits, contemporary issues’ discussions, or occasional special guest speakers.

In addition to our Sun Lakes chapter, the greater Phoenix area proudly boasts its number one rating of chapters around the country. There are so many subject-specific study groups that meet monthly and anyone who is a Sun Lakes member is eligible to participate in those as well. These may include art gallery tours and introductions to local artists, meetings with local Arizona authors, cooking classes, movie viewings and discussions and numerous focused book clubs. It’s a great way to expand your friendships in and out of the Sun Lakes area.

You are cordially invited to an introductory meeting on Thursday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. to learn more about the array of activities that will be presented this year. We will also be discussing the book The Lady in Gold by Anne-Marie O’Connor. (This excellent book describes the life of Adele Bloch-Bauer, the inspiration of and model for the artist Gustav Klimt. Give yourself the summer to read it — it’s well worth its length).

The meeting will be held at the home of Irene Kestenbaum. Light refreshments will be served. For directions and to RSVP, please call Irene at 883-7639 or send her an email at [email protected]. We hope to see you there.
