Can You Hear the Stillness?

It takes a lot of patience to sit in stillness. And then we welcomed the 2020 year, and we are now hip deep in stillness. As photographers, we have a head start in knowing how to be patient. Patient waiting for the perfect storm to chase, patient for the exact moment an egret catches a fish, patient for a day to night time lapse image, patient sitting at the computer picking the best image, and patient waiting for our club meetings to resume again. Let’s see what we can accomplish during our duration of being still. During this time, we can reflect, celebrate, purge, and grow. We can reflect how far we have come, moving from automatic focus to manual focus on our cameras. We can celebrate the many trips and gatherings our club has had sharing our love of photography and, soon, will again. We can purge the many gigabytes, terabytes for some, of images getting to the few that have that wow-factor! Most of all, we can see the growth we will soon look back on: growth in our camera skills, editing of our images, and most of all, the growth in our connections and relationships. The Sun Lakes Camera Club is so much more than great photography. Be safe, members! We look forward to connecting again when it is safe to do so.

Members: Lynn and our board of directors made the difficult decision that we will not be resuming normal on-site club meetings in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club (SLCC) due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of our members. We will take advantage of putting together virtual meetings using Zoom. Look for more information and instruction in your emails, on our website, and when it becomes available. There is a virtual program scheduled for Oct. 15, a program presented by a member of the Hunt’s Photo staff on mirrorless cameras. The presenter is located on the East Coast, so this virtual meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Arizona time. The Arizona Camera Club Council (ACCC) will be holding their Fall RoundUp virtually. If you did not receive a flyer, please reach out to Lynn for more information.

Please do your best to enter the competition and support the ACCC.

Please take advantage of our club’s Facebook page to share images and connect with each other via our love of photography. Interested in joining our club? Have a unique skill-set to offer? Reach out to our leaders at the numbers below.

The Sun Lakes Camera Club (SLCC) meets the first and third Thursdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club from October through April. During the summer, the club meets the first Thursday of each month in the Ceramics Room of the Cottonwood Country Club.
