A small group of Cheers members went to visit the Greek Orthodox monastery in Florence on February 4. The site consists of several churches, each done in a different architectural style. Together with the gardens on the property it was a very interesting and beautiful experience! Both women and men had to be covered head to toe in compliance with the wishes of the monks that run the site. After the visit the group went to a Greek restaurant in Florence and finished with a wine tasting at a local winery.

Group functions like this are arranged by our activity director Richard Lewin who, along with Maria Aitkin, plan day trips along with Spirit Travel. Some are only for the day; others that include longer travel are three to four days in length. You can find out more about the opportunities by coming to our weekly socials held every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Oakwood Country Club lounge. Look for the welcome table where you’ll be greeted by a member who will tell you about our club functions. We also have a bulletin board located at the entrance of the lounge where you can see coming events for Cheers. Membership is $20 per year; you’ll enjoy being with us!
