Computer Booters will meet Dec. 4. We will have an ice cream social at the end of the meeting. At 6 p.m., we have cookies and coffee. At 6 p.m., our technical director, Allan Levy, runs a free one-on-one computer clinic. Come and get your computer questions answered. Meetings are from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sun Lakes Country Club’s Navajo Room, 25601 Sun Lakes Blvd. The next meeting is Wednesday, Dec. 4.

December speaker: Dawn Gardner started working for Maricopa County Library District in February of 2019 and is the manager of the Ed Robson Library. She holds a B.A. in Mathematics from Luther College and an M.A. in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa. Dawn was a library manager for Milwaukee Public Library for three years prior to her current position, and she lived in Tucson from 2000 to 2016, where she raised her two daughters and worked for 10 years for Pima County Public Library in a variety of positions. Dawn will be presenting information about the many free online resources offered by the Maricopa County Library District. With your library card and Internet access, you can read e-magazines, stream a movie or some music, learn a language, take an online course or a practice test for an exam, find your next good read, research products, and much more.

In November, we were thrilled to host the Hamilton High Robotics Team, also known as Team 698 or the Microbots, located in Chandler, Arizona, at Hamilton High School. Since its founding in 2001, Team 698 has striven to sweep the competition and perform at a high level of skill. Practicing both good sportsmanship and an attitude of excellence are two of Hamilton High’s many goals.

Computer Booters has several volunteer positions. Give us a call if interested. Volunteers are what make our organization possible.

December Workshops:

Genealogy the Modern Way, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ceramics Room. The instructor is Barbara Hug.

The study of Family History combined with pedigree charts gives us a good idea of who we are and where we came from. The advent of computers has made this process much easier than in the olden days. This class will explain the basis of geological research along with the free genealogy websites. Who knows, but you may find that you are related to a king or queen. Now wouldn’t that be fun.

PC Tune Up in a Snap, Dec. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the Microsoft Store in Chandler by Microsoft staff

We’ll walk you through easy-to-learn maintenance techniques and storage opportunities in the Cloud. At the end of the session, you’ll know all about the Performance Troubleshooter, Windows and Office Update, and Disc Defragmenter. You’ll know how to remove viruses and spyware and back up files on your computer with OneDrive.

Important information: Windows 7 has two months left of support. What does that mean? There will be no more security updates for 7 in three months. Please continue to install the security updates, as Computer Booters will have classes and discussions on what users should do.

The next version of Office, Office 2019, will not run on Windows 7, and Office 365 will stop working on Windows 7. Other versions, previous versions of Office (2016, 2013, 2010, etc.) will run on Windows 7.
