Emmett Babler and Carmela Hopkins arrived at the ballroom for our January Black and White Ball ready to party! They maintained that happy smile all night. Emmett and Carmela are long time members of the club. They are definitely not afraid to get in the “swing” of the theme.

The Cotillion Dance Club is presenting the Prohibition Ball in the Oakwood ballroom on Saturday, March 11. The times will harken back to secret guarded entrances to elegant ballrooms where most folks were not prohibitionists. This will be a formal dinner dance. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Come early and enjoy the company and atmosphere. Members and guests are welcome. Guest seating will be limited, so be sure to register early. Member invitations have been mailed. Online registration is available on our website.

The Lyn Jackson Ensemble will provide the evening’s dance music and entertainment. This musical group is highlighted by talented musicians and Lyn’s incredible vocals. The meal prepared by Oakwood banquet chef for our January Black and White Ball was highlighted by a variety of hot hors d’oeuvres at the reception and the grilled salmon entree. She has promised to make the upcoming meal even better. The VIP reception will serve hors d’oeuvres, including egg rolls with hot and sour dipping sauce, sausage-stuffed mushrooms and pork and vegetable pot stickers with a soy glaze served with glasses of delicious champagne. The background music for the reception will be provided by the Lyn Jackson Ensemble’s awesome pianist Richard Palalay at the baby grand piano.

The reception is followed by an intimate three-course sit-down dinner served by the banquet staff. Cotillion Dance Club volunteers have planned an event based upon formal dances held in secret locations with obscure guarded entrances during Prohibition. The first course provides a choice of a fresh garden salad or a traditional Waldorf salad. The entree selections are grilled chicken with sweet mango relish, a balsamic-roasted Portobello, macadamia-crusted chicken with hunter sauce or a Yankee pot roast. For dessert, there is a choice of a seasonal fresh fruit plate or the chef’s raspberry cheesecake – sounds wonderful!

One of our dance studio sponsors is Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Chandler. This is their second season as a Cotillion Dance Club sponsor. We appreciate their continued services to the club. Please visit our website for more information about the services and programs available for our membership.

The group dance lesson for the upcoming dinner dance is scheduled for Friday, March 10, at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom. The Fred Astaire Studio will be providing instructors for the Tango. Members and guests are welcome.
