Another fun season for the Cottonwood Lady Niners is coming to an end. April 12 was our Farewell Luncheon, held just before a lot of the snowbirds took flight. Along with a great lunch and lots of socializing, awards for the golf season were announced. Eden Carter presented Cathy Sullivan with the coveted Most Improved! Club champions Lynn Tanner, Low Gross, and Ginger Mays, Low Net, received their trophies. State Medallion winners were Eden Carter and Sheila Axtman, Low Gross. Low Net was Lorri Morgan and Christine LeCoutre. After lunch, one of Arizona’s famous dust storms moved in. The majority of the ladies decided we have too many perfect days to play, and this wasn’t one of them. Two days earlier, our own Rachelle Wilson had one of those perfect days with a hole-in-one! April 10, Palo Verde Hole #3 with a 7 iron. Congratulations to all the ladies.

And the last published scores for our season: Five blind holes on April 5 Flight #1 winners were Cathy Brabant, Bette Lu Buchanan, Lynn Tanner and Jill Brindley; Flight #2: Lane Kemper, Ginger Mays, Judy Whitney, Jean Nelson and Kay Newton; Flight #3: Shirley Trusal, Dixie McQuaid, Judy Hultgren, Patti Landry and Donna Walgren. April 19 game was Low Net and Flight #1 winners were Leanna Mickelson, Sheila Axtman, Kathy Garner and Barb Sherman; Flight #2: Pam Wagoner, Pauline Corcoran and Ruth Einck; Flight #3: Charlene Clark, Kathy Mynarowski and Linda Sparks; Flight #4: Lisa Mahoric, Kay Kauzman, Patti Landry, Diane Rutowski and Mary Anne Loran.

May 31 was our last organized game for the season, but the Niners will be back in force November 1. Come join the fun because, remember, if your driver is hot, your putter will be ice cold; if you can hit your irons, you will top your woods; if you are keeping your right elbow tucked in, your head will come up… or so I’ve heard. Also remember the fantastic price available to the Niners, $275 for the entire season of 9 holes Thursday afternoons for Phase 2 homeowners, slightly higher for Phase 1 and 3. Enjoy your summer wherever you are!
