Thank you to all who supported the Fun Lakers sponsored Charity Drive for San Marcos Elementary! We live in such a great place with generous people. A combination of donated supplies and cash was collected. We received 75 spiral notebooks, 10 packages of markers, 31 boxes of crayons, 11 packages of glue sticks, 38 pencil boxes, 30 packages of colored pencils, 360 no. 2 pencils, and binders, folders, scissors, pens, highlighters, pens, etc. We have $2,056 in cash donations.

The principal at San Marcos Elementary was contacted to ask if they would like us to include sanitation supplies. She indicated that wipes, sanitizer, and Kleenex would be a great help. Therefore, about $800 is targeted for these items. Research on pricing was conducted with Amazon and a bid from Office Depot, it is the vendor used by Chandler Unified School District in order to maximize preferred pricing, plus savings on tax relief, because we are a 501(c)(7) charity.

In response to membership survey results, we have planned our first COVID-era event, The “Bubble of Friends” Happy Hour event at Palo Verde Country Club. There are a limited number of members to keep everyone safe, and all tables are limited to a close group of friends no larger than eight people per table for a two-hour event. Each person will receive a half carafe of wine and plate of appetizers. We will let you all know how this turned out through our club Blasts and the next community paper issue.

The club remains focused on having fun, but safely and responsibly. Whether you are a current member or plan on joining in the future, the board, chairs, and ambassadors continue to meet (virtually) planning for future events. We have a number of smaller group events, such as Mexican train, euchre card game nights, bocce ball, and bean bag games, which may be how we start adding events. Don’t forget about the Solo group who meet and plan events for those who do not have partners.
