At the Sun Lakes Garden Club April 17 meeting, members and visitors will enjoy “The Art of Water” by Robin Fernald (AZLivingWaters.com). Robin Fernald is a biologist with an education in Cellular Molecular Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Washington in Seattle. Robin has worked the last two decades in Chandler, serving the East Valley in aquaculture and water feature design, build, repair and maintenance. Members and visitors will enjoy a slide presentation of ponds, waterfalls and larger water features.

Meetings are held the third Tuesday every month gathering at 9:30 a.m. for socializing and refreshments. The meeting starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. and ends around 11:45 a.m. This month, members and guests are invited to caravan to club member Sidney Sexson’s home (Oakwood) to see the pond created by Robin. Lunch is optional at the private dining area in the back at Stone & Barrel Restaurant in Oakwood Country Club after touring the pond.

Field trips are a fun part of the club, and in early March, the club toured the beautiful grounds at St. Anthony’s Monastery (Greek Orthodox) near Florence, AZ. Members enjoyed the five Byzantine and Romanian Chapels, fountains and paths and the 55 monks living there who produce their own olive oil, peach, lemon and fig preserves and sell them at their gift shop. All visitors are required to cover themselves from head to toe to be respectful to their customs. This field trip ended with an authentic Greek lunch at Mt. Athos Greek Restaurant in downtown Florence.

The meetings are held at the Sun Lakes Chapel Center, 9230 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. (located across the street from the Sun Lakes Country Club and next to the Sun Lakes Chapel). Visitors are welcome.
