IMGA happenings and events

John Concannon

Another quiet month at the Ironwood Golf Course and the course continues to look and play well. Unfortunately, it is now overseeding season and let’s hope the course continues as it has been.

I understand Frank Gaudioso is recovering nicely from heart surgery. Hope you are back better than ever, Frank.

The last event of the Summer Golf League was held at Palo Verde with a full complement of golfers. It was a fine end to a successful summer of golf. Many thanks to Steve Kirschner for the yeoman efforts he put forth to make it a success.

A committee is being formed, headed by Joe Mandour, to serve as a sounding board between IMGA members and Charles Key. It will address concerns, both general and specific, relative to course conditions. Hopefully this committee will result in overall improved course conditions and maintain a positive attitude on the part of the membership toward our course.

A new two day tournament pitting IMGA against MOGA is in the planning stages. A Ryder Cup format, it is scheduled for a two-man Best Ball format at Ironwood on November 17 and a two- man alternate shot format at Oakwood on November 19. Teams will be selected based on a handicap/index. More information will be sent out to members when formalized but keep these two dates open on your calendar. It should be a very exciting event.

Speaking of future dates, keep October 20 open. That is the date of the IronOaks Golf EXPO to be held at the Oakwood Golf Club, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Plan on attending to see the latest in golf equipment and accessories.

Until next month, keep your head down and hit them straight!
