TJ Jones accepting Ryder Cup Trophy

TJ Jones accepting Ryder Cup Trophy

John Concannon, Publicity

The initial Ryder Cup event was completed in November and I have yet to hear a negative comment about it. Almost to the man, the players that I talked to about the event had a grand time. The format and the playing at two different courses really made the event the success it was. I am not privy to the individual winners, but, one thing I do know is Ironwood was taken to the shed and then some. The final score was Oakwood 39.5 points – Ironwood 16.5 points. Not to fret; like the Chicago Cubs say. “Wait till next year.” Hopefully, next year, with adequate planning, the event will be even more fun to participate in. The initial intent was to promote and increase camaraderie between the Ironwood and Oakwood men’s clubs. I think that goal was achieved. Thanks to Bill Beltz, president of IMGA and T.J. Jones, MOGA president for formulating the event and a special thanks to Jack Davis and Aki Yasuda for their immeasurable work in making this event a success.

I just heard that Jim Poole spent several weeks in the hospital after a fall in his home. Jim spent almost 12 hours on the floor of his home until Jack Lehmkuhl found him and called 911. Fortunately Jim had his car keys and was able to sound his car alarm which Jack heard and responded to. Jim was transferred to the Sante’ Rehab Center to undergo therapy. Hopefully by the time this article is published, Jim will be back home and continuing his recovery.

If you haven’t heard, Sam Abrams, our oldest active member, died unexpectedly. Our good wishes go out to his daughter and family.

On a slightly less morbid note, I heard from Tom Bledsoe recently regarding his dad, Terry. Terry was a longtime member and past president of IMGA. Both he and his wife are in an Assisted Care facility in Rhode Island, but in reasonably stable health. Anyone wishing to send greetings to Terry can do so through his son. I will be happy to provide you with Tom’s address.

As the year comes to a close, I want to wish one and all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
