Dorothy Douglass

Dorothy Douglass lived in Sun Lakes and passed away on May 26, 2017, at the age of 87. She was an extraordinary woman who dedicated her life to bettering the world through her support of charities devoted to the environment, animal advocacy and helping those less fortunate than she.

She loved camping and fishing with her husband Ed, won awards for fly tying and had a passion for cooking, jewelry making, watercolor painting and inspiring others to broaden their horizons by trying something new.

She was predeceased by her husband Ed and will be greatly missed by her friends who will love her forever.

Glen Jorgensen

Glen Jorgensen, 89, passed peacefully on May 31, 2017, at his home in Sun Lakes. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years Betty (Adcock) Jorgensen; his daughters Karen (husband Ron), Kathleen and Sheri (husband Duane); his sons Kurt (wife Mary) and Bill (wife Justina); his grandchildren Eric, Aron (wife Ana), Amber (husband Jeffrey), Julia, Matthew (wife Haley, Dale, Chelsea (husband Chris), Michael, Katie (husband Forest), Jennifer Michael, Alexandria and Luke; six great-grandchildren and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his son Keene, his daughter Christy and his parents Dagmar and Chris.

He was born in Brighton, Colorado, and attended Adams City High School. He attended the University of Colorado where he played basketball. After two years, he enlisted in the United States Army and went to Vienna, Austria. He married Merle Kline and had four children. In 1981, she passed. He met and married Betty in 1982. They moved to Arizona, and he became a real estate broker. Throughout his life, he was involved in Masonic Lodge of Colorado, Lions Club, Kiwanis International Club, The Danish Brotherhood and a volunteer for the Girl Scouts.

A memorial service was held June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sun Lakes Methodist Church, 9248 Riggs Road.

David Edward Foley

David Edward Foley, 77, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in his Sun Lakes, Arizona, home of complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

Dave was born March 28, 1940, in Highland Park, Michigan, to Ben and Flora Foley. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit and then earned an Industrial Engineering degree at Lawrence Technical University in southeastern Michigan. He spent most of his career at General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, retiring in 1992 after 25 years. Dave proudly served in the US Air Force Reserve for six years.

He moved to Arizona in 1993 and to Sun Lakes in 2000. He was a very devoted family man and always cherished time spent with them. Dave was definitely a “people” person and thoroughly enjoyed the many wonderful friendships he developed throughout his life. His love of dancing and card games was surpassed only by his love for golf, and he was always happy to be “on the links.”

Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years and best friend Colleen; son Jeff (Janet) of Commerce Township, Michigan; daughter Lynn Selasky and grandson Kyle Selasky of Chandler, Arizona.

A Celebration of Life was held in June at the Sun Lakes Palo Verde Country Club. A similar event will be held in Michigan at a later date. Family suggests memorial donations to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Marion Alice Congdon Schaller

Marion Alice Congdon Schaller was born on March 2, 1926, in Oak Park, Illinois, and died on May 31, 2017, in Chandler, Arizona.

She married Cy Schaller in 1946 and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary before he died in 2014. A lifelong lover of books and learning, Marion received a bachelor’s degree in 1967 from Old Dominion University with a double major in Library Science and Education. While working full-time as a junior high school librarian, she earned a master’s degree in Information Management from George Mason University. During her distinguished career in the library, she excelled at working with at-risk youth which carried over into retirement when she volunteered with the STRIVE Program at Chandler High School in 2004-05.

Marion was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the American Association of University Women.

A resident of Sun Lakes, Arizona, since 1994, Marion resided at The Renaissance Senior Living Community for the last seven years where she was an active member of the book club and expressed her artistic talents in water color and oil painting. She was the devoted mother of Mary Stebbins, David Schaller (Kim Durlam), Diane Schaller (Bill Lawrence), Laurie Graaff (Tim) and John Schaller; loving grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of seven. Contributions in Marion’s memory can be made to the Chandler Rotary, P.O. Box 841, Chandler, AZ 85244, for a scholarship to be named in her honor.

Terrie Heichelbech

Terrie Heichelbech, 69, passed away on June 1, 2017 in Phoenix after a short illness. Terrie was born on September 23, 1947 to LaVell and Nina Grange Shiner in Price, Utah. There she learned to play golf at the early age of nine from her father, a pro at the local country club. She later married and moved to California where her three children were born. After moving to Illinois for a brief time she divorced and moved to Phoenix. This is where she and Bob first met. He was on a business trip from Denver and for the next two years flew from Denver twice a month to spend more time with Terrie. She then moved to Denver where they were married on July 12, 1987 and lived in Centennial, Colorado. Upon retirement in 1998, they moved to Sun Lakes, AZ.

Terrie enjoyed golf and was the past president of the PVLGA. She loved to play cards, especially bridge. She was very active in the Cottonwood Tennis Club as well as playing pickleball and bocce ball. She also volunteered with Neighbors Who Care for many years. She loved dancing to Rock and Roll music and watching our beautiful Arizona sunsets. She enjoyed entertaining and being with close friends. She and Bob both enjoyed traveling together that included fulfilling some of her bucket list items to include the Pasadena Rose Parade, traveling to Central Europe and cruising to Alaska.

Her loving heart and kind spirit will be forever missed by her husband, family and the many friends who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.

Terrie is survived by her husband, Bob; her children, Holly (John) Aikin and great-granddaughters, Lyric and Harper; Jodi (Chris) Pudwill, granddaughters, Aliya and Taya; Kyle (Alexis) Evans, grandson, Xavier; Bob’s sons, Jon; Jim (Laura) step-grandchildren, Arianna, Nicolas and Gabriel. She is also survived by her siblings: Paula Falvo, Gaye(Brent) Wynn, Gary Shiner, Anita (John) Tromp and Sandra (Jim) Quist.

Harold Snively

Harold Snively passed away on May 19, 2017. He was born in Braddyvillle, Iowa on October 28, 1926. He was the eighth child of Ren and Florence Maxwell Snively and the second born of a set of identical twins.

The family moved to New Market, Iowa in 1932, where they continued to live and where Harold graduated from high school in 1944. Following his graduation, he served in the Navy for two years. After being honorably discharged, he became a barber and subsequently moved to Rawlins, Wyoming where he married Mary Evelyn Morris, in 1949. He was soon hired as a policeman by the Rawlins Police Department. He enjoyed this work very much. However, when he received an offer to work for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation at Seminoe Dam in the operation of hydro-electric generators and high voltage transmission lines, he jumped at the chance. This became a successful career for him. As he moved to other locations in the west, he took college courses at night and extension classes and was promoted to supervisory and management roles. He retired in 1981.

Harold and Mary Evelyn traveled extensively for several years before she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She died in 1995. They had settled in Florence, Arizona, but after her death, Harold moved to Sun Lakes. In 2005 he married Peggy McBride of Mesa, Arizona. They were happily married until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Peggy McBride, and his daughters Patricia (Arch) Coderre of Red Deer, Alberta and Bonnie (Ron) Hirst, Tonasket, Washington, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His funeral was held on May 31 in Clarinda, Iowa, and a memorial service was held on June 24 in Sun Lakes.

Virginia Anderson Renne (Ginny) Hickey

Virginia Anderson Renne (Ginny) Hickey, a resident of the Sun Lakes area, passed away June 2 at Dignity Health, Chandler, Arizona.

Ginny was born in Billings, Montana, on June 13, 1943, to Charles and Margaret Anderson. She graduated from Bozeman Senior High School in Bozeman, Montana. She lived in Colorado most of her adult life and recently retired to Sun Lakes, Arizona.

She was married to Paul Renne of Bozeman, Montana, and had two children, Jeanette Bettin (Scottsdale, AZ) and Tanya Renne (Washington, DC). Paul later passed away.

She married R. David Hickey from Columbus, Indiana. She is survived by her husband David; her two daughters Jeanette (Tuck) and Tanya (Cindy); two stepsons Dan and Tom Hickey and eight grandchildren, Makenna and Riley Bettin, Paul and Olivia Renne, Chase and Taylor Hickey and Payton and Ethan Hickey. She is also survived by her sister Barbara McGuire Averett (Woods Cross, UT) and niece Sheri McGuire Meehan (Rohnert Park, CA).

Ginny loved socializing, cooking and working with her hands. She was a gifted quiltmaker, seamstress and artisan. She had a kind and gentle spirit and was generous with her heart.
