Keep moving with Tai Chi

Kim Kubsch

Life is like riding a bicycle – in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving! In our easy and gentle Tai Chi-Qigong class at Sun Lakes Country Club Mirror Room, we keep moving continuously for approximately one hour. Similar to a slow dance, but solo, all that matters is your safety and comfort. While many Tai Chi classes are a “form,” our class, geared to mature adults of all abilities, is a fusion rather than a form.

We move very slowly and in a controlled fashion to help strengthen the lower body while coordinating with the upper body. Our balance is tested frequently as we spend 10 to 20 seconds on one leg throughout the practice. Often, people hold on to the back of the chair while standing on one leg. Our breath becomes slow and deep which feels in harmony with our movements. The order of our movements varies each week which helps fine-tune our mental and physical agility. And, of course, movements with strong posture is essential to having good balance.
