Lions Club “Melvin Jones Fellow” award

PDG Lion Forrest B. Cheuvront Jr.

Past President Lion Lorna Snedigar presents a “Melvin Jones Fellow” award to Lion James Hodge for his service in Lionism. A Melvin Jones Fellow is one of the highest forms of recognition bestowed upon a Lion. Melvin Jones was born on a cavalry outpost at Camp Thomas, AZ, on January 13, 1879. His family later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where at the age of 33, he became a member of the local business community.

In 1917, Melvin’s group formed a group called Lions Clubs around the USA. In 1920, this group became known as “Lions Clubs International” and currently has the largest membership (approximately 1.4 million) in the world. Arizona is fortunate to have the Melvin Jones Lions International Memorial located at Ft. Thomas, AZ.
