Gila Butte Daughters at State Conference

Gila Butte Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), sent delegates to Arizona DAR’s State Conference in Tucson and to Continental Congress, the annual national conference held in Washington, D.C. Gila Butte Chapter sent the largest contingent of any chapter in the state to the Tucson meeting.

The State Conference is Arizona DAR’s annual business meeting, with 42 state chapters in attendance and representation from more than 50 national and state committees. It is an opportunity to celebrate successes and to plan for the future.

Since the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1890, the organization has held Continental Congress, its annual national meeting, in Washington, D.C. National, state and chapter leaders, as well as other members from around the world, meet for a week at the DAR National Headquarters to report on the year’s work, to honor outstanding award recipients, to plan future initiatives and to reconnect with friends.

In Washington, the week-long Congress consists of business sessions, committee meetings, social functions and formal evening ceremonies. The principal ceremonies are held in historic DAR Constitution Hall, Washington D.C.’s largest concert hall and a National Historic Landmark Building, which opened in 1929; it was designed to house the annual DAR conventions and constitutes a portion of the DAR complex located across from the White House Ellipse. Many forums and state-sponsored events are also held in the official conference hotel.

Gila Butte DAR meets in Sun Lakes and welcomes women over 18 who can prove bloodline lineage from a patriot of the Revolution. For information, call 480-802-6993 or go to the Gila Butte Chapter website, gilabutte.arizonadar.org.
