March happenings at Ed Robson Branch Library

Please join us at the Ed Robson Library for the following programs in March:

Wednesday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m.

Long Walk of the Navajo People*

In 1864, Navajo people were forced to walk over 450 miles to Fort Sumner in eastern New Mexico. Imprisoned on a 40-square mile reservation for four long years, the people suffered unimaginable conditions. In 1868, an agreement finally allowed the Navajos to return to a portion of their original lands located in northeastern Arizona and northwestern New Mexico. The audience will hear the Navajo elders’ version of the Long Walk.

Fridays, March 3, 10, 24 and 31, at 1:00 p.m.

Swing into History: Music of the Big Band Era*

When folks talk about listening and dancing to the bands of the 1930s and 40s, they frequently mention “jitterbugging” to a swing tune. However, the romantic ballads were most often the big hits on radio’s “Your Hit Parade.” Music historian Erik Larson will feature a mix of both sweet and swing tunes and include a few surprises to engage all musical tastes!

Thursday, March 9, at 10:30 a.m.
