The Cottonwood Palo Verde Foundation now has a full complement of nine directors! The foundation’s board of directors is composed of members from all phases of Sun Lakes: Sun Lakes Country Club, Cottonwood, IronOaks, and Palo Verde. All the members sincerely care about improving the quality of life for our mature residents in Sun Lakes and the East Valley and share a long history of volunteerism. In fact, six of the foundation’s nine directors are recipients of the prestigious Crystal Award which is presented annually to outstanding volunteers in our community!

The two newest directors on the Board of the CWPV Foundation are Jeanne Becker and Kathy Skrei.

Jeanne Becker brings over 20 years of experience as an administrative manager to the foundation. During her professional career, she worked for a medical equipment manufacturer, a high-tech company, and a law firm. Jeanne retired to Sun Lakes six years ago and began volunteering in the office of the Sun Lakes Sheriff’s Posse, dispensing free medical equipment. For the past five years, she has been an income tax preparer in the no-cost IRS/VITA program, doing tax returns for Sun Lakes residents. Jeanne served as a member of the Sun Lakes Country Club Food and Beverage Committee and the Long-Range Planning Committee. She was elected to the Sun Lakes Country Club Board of Directors in 2017 and has subsequently served as their treasurer, then vice-president and is now their president. In her spare time, Jeanne is a member of the Sun Lakes Community Theatre and enjoys assisting with their productions.

Kathy Skrei is a native Iowan. She taught psychology and American history in Sioux City, Iowa, until she retired in June of 2000. Kathy and her husband Bill then moved to Sun Lakes where they both enjoy playing golf. Kathy has been active in the Palo Verde Ladies Golf Association and the Cottonwood Lady Niners. She was also on the Cottonwood Palo Verde HOA Board of Directors for five years, serving as its president for three years. Currently, Kathy is serving as vice chair and secretary of the Facility and Grounds Committee. Kathy’s volunteerism has extended to local charities as well. She was one of the co-founders of the wonderful Crystal Card Project. Through the efforts of many Sun Lakes women who make and sell beautiful greeting cards, the Crystal Card Project has contributed over $30,000 to My Sister’s Place in Chandler – a shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children! The Crystal Card Project was a past recipient of a grant from the CWPV Foundation which provided assistance for supplies and equipment.

The Fourth Annual Fun Walk, benefitting the Cottonwood Palo Verde Foundation, will start at

You even have three walking courses to choose from: a super-easy 1/2-mile walk, a casual 1-mile walk, or a more vigorous course of 2.7 miles. The registration deadline for participation in the 2019 Fun Walk is October 17. Registration forms can be downloaded from the Foundation’s website, www.CWPVFoundation.org, or collected from the Cottonwood Palo Verde Homeowner Services office.
