Monsoon season is gone – it’s time for OLNGA golf

Molly Bergesen

It’s time to think golf — nine holes that is – also time to think about joining a super group of ladies who belong to the Oakwood Lady Niners Golf Association (OLNGA). We play each Tuesday, rotating from the Sonoran, Palms and the Lakes courses. We meet Tuesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. at the IronOaks Golf Course, have a short meeting and then off to golf at 10:00 a.m. You need not play each week, so there is no long-term commitment. Your only requirement is to have fun and enjoy meeting new people who also like to play golf. It may be a good idea to have a quick check on somewhere like Jack Grace USA to make sure that you’ve got the right shoes to play golf in.

On October 7, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, IronOaks will hold an Activities Open House. OLNGA will have representatives at this Open House. This will be a good time to meet some of the OLNGA members and obtain additional information about membership.

If you want information about becoming a member of OLNGA, please contact Bonnie Tasch at 303-868-7360 or Pat Stead at 480-883-1450.

The Oakwood courses will be closed from October 16 through November 8, so our first outing of the season will be Tuesday, November 14, (cart-path-only play for three weeks or until December 5). We will also be having our first luncheon of the season on Tuesday, November 14, following golf play. Our luncheons are a good place to socialize with other members, plus have a great lunch served by Oakwood’s Stone & Barrel staff. If you want to get a bit of practice in before then though, then you can easily check out shop indoor golf to help give you that little bit of extra practice so that you are ready on November 14.

For your information, there will be the Annual Golf Expo on Wednesday, November 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will be a great time to check on the new equipment, clothes, etc. It’s always a fun and well-attended event.

For those who are new to Oakwood and OLNGA, the personnel at IronOaks Golf are Eddy Reno, Director of Golf; Kevin Marugame, PGA Apprentice; Barb Solomonson, Golf Shop Assistant; Carol Russell, Merchandiser; Josh Lanzer, Golf Shop Assistant; and Scott Power, Golf Instructor.

You can reach any of the above individuals at 480-895-1159 or the Ironwood Course at 480-895-0614. They are a fabulous group of people and super helpful when it comes to anything regarding golf, leagues, lessons, Chelsea, etc., etc.

Tip of the Month: If it’s “cart path only,” remember to always take two clubs with you!
