More dollars to water well project

Ernestine McGhee presenting a check to Rev. Dennis Campbell for the water well project

Rev. Jerry McGhee, the beloved Pastor of Sun Lakes Community Church, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2019. His wife Ernestine McGhee requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts could go to a special mission project that was a special delight to her husband.

That project, conducted by Global Outreach Mission in Sierra Leone, Africa, was started several years ago by Rev. Dennis Campbell, and now more than 200 fresh water wells have been completed along with churches, schools and a variety of nutrition and hygiene training.

Village chiefs are approached and offered a well in exchange for ground where a church can be built. They have never been turned down. Because of the long-term goal to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these villages, the mission is committed to keep the wells operational – so all of them continue to provide fresh water.

Last year, Sun Lakes Community Church had received offerings in excess of ongoing expense and was searching for the best possible use of $25,000 the church wanted to invest in a mission project. This in addition to a budgeted commitment of more than 20% that goes to missions every year. When Pastor Jerry heard about this project, he was immediately attracted to it because of family history involving digging for water. He had actually worked for a water well company early in his adult life.

Dennis Campbell was recently at the church bringing a report on the project. The total raised for this phase of the project has come to $12,330.00. The little boy pumping water was Pastor Jerry’s favorite photo representing the project.

Sun Lakes Community Church meets for worship every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Sun Lakes Chapel located across from the sun Lakes Country Club. For more information, call 480-895-9147 or go to www.sunlakescommunitychurch.org. All are welcome!
