President’s message

David Erwin, President, IronOaks Board of Directors

This has been a busy month for the Board and staff.

Last Wednesday at the Special Board Meeting it was decided that the vacant Board seat will be filled by a Special Election. Bob Deken, Chair of the Election Committee, will be presenting details later on today’s agenda. Talk to your friends and neighbors and urge them to consider running for the Board.

The Oakwood Restaurant and Lounge Project is proceeding. The request for bids for construction will be issued by the first of April, and the project is scheduled to start by mid-May. The Oakwood restrooms and Billiards Room will also be reviewed.

The Board has been examining the possibility of hiring a professional management company versus continuing with self-management. This is still in the very early stage of discussion. We have several companies under consideration.

Today’s agenda also includes the topic of Pickleball. I will leave any points and discussion to be made then.

We expect to see significant improvement in our Network and Point-Of-Sale system as we are replacing the switches with upgraded/faster switches and dedicated a server for our Jonas accounting/business software.

On March 31 there was a meeting at Cottonwood hosted by Maricopa County. The topic was the proposed golf path along Alma School Road.

Here’s a brief summary of what the staff has accomplished this month:

Food and Beverage:

All of the events and activities have been well attended! There were over 250 meals served at the St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Sunsets.

More than 300 people attended the Concert Series on March 10.

The Piano Man concert was sold out.

Easter Brunch had more than 400 reservations.

The last Sunday Brunch at Oakwood will be May 1.

Poolside will be open Monday-Saturday from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday Brunch will be 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Golf:

The Ironwood Renovation pre-bid meeting on March 10 drew interest from seven potential contractors. The deadline was March 31.

The new pump station power conduit is ready and the installation of the pump station will be completed during next week.

The Demo Days were held on March 16 and 18.

A summer league for Orbital ATK has been booked.

Fitness:

Genders Doubles Clay Tournament started March 21 and ended March 25.

Pickleball Social was held last Sunday.

The revinyling of the outdoor furniture has been scheduled.

Removal and replacement of two pieces of Universal Strength Training equipment.

Communications:

Information TVs have been installed at Poolside, Ironwood and Oakwood Clubhouses, Fitness Center and Oakwood Pro Shop. Program information began on April 15.

The next issue of the Pulse newsletter will feature Fitness/Racquet Center.

Every Department now has their own SITL-style email blast.

Every flyer, poster, signs, tickets and banners are produced by the Communications Department.

A reminder, if you find a page that needs updating or corrected, let them know via a comment card.

Facilities:

The painting of our buildings is progressing smoothly. All have been painted except the Oakwood Clubhouse. Final touchups will be performed before starting the Oakwood Clubhouse.

Stan Tec has completed the road analysis and will provide a complete report.

The tree thinning is being performed along the walking paths. Two more are scheduled for this month.

The skinning of the palm trees for all common areas will start later this year. RFP’s have been sent to a number of tree trimming companies.
