As our seasonal visitors leave to return to their cool exotic northern locations, subtle changes take place in the shops. We at the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem and Silver Club (SLRGS) are still here and working!

Instructors and monitors actually have the time to explore new ways to work with their medium. We see innovative glass, metal and lapidary projects by the expert instructors; some to develop as ideas for student projects in the fall, to find and test new materials and to complete projects that explore the instructor’s creative side.

At least one instructor plans to offer the basic course in silver construction in July. Other plans and schedules can be found on the Sun Lakes Rock Gem and Silver Club website at www.slrgs.com. The schedule lists the dates, time and monitors/instructors for each craft offered and the instructors’ phone numbers.

If you are interested, pick up the phone and talk to an instructor who can answer your questions and guide you to developing new skills. Focusing on learning a craft and using the tools and machines to complete projects can make the summer pass very quickly. Participating in a year-round club is a great way to make new friends.

The club welcomes Keith McDonald as the new field trip coordinator. He is planning the next trip and will have the time and location posted on the SLRGS.com website.

Finally, four outstanding members were recognized by the Board for their unflagging contributions to the club: Sheilah Buscaglia, Nancy Hibbard, Ron List and Larry Portschi. Congratulations and thank you for your years of service to the SLRGS.
