PVMGA January 2018 tournament results

Bob Armstrong, Publicity

As we enter prime time in the Valley of the Sun, we are happy to report the results of the most recent Palo Verde Men’s Golf Association activities:

On Thursday, January 10, and Saturday, January 13, a Home and Home Tournament with Sun Lakes Country Club was won by Eddie Mukhar of Sun Lakes and our own Mike Mlynarczyk, Ken Pearson and Neil Curtis, with a score of 198!

On the afternoon of Saturday, January 13, a 3 Best Balls Net event resulted in a dead heat! The winners, with scores of 168, were (in no particular order): Don Grossart, Gerald Brock, Mike Rufert and John Kuchera; Dan Ashley, Mike Murray, Wes Davis and Arny Pinsly; Pat Conry, Dick Howell and Jerry Esget. Congratulations to all!

On the morning of Saturday, January 20, a large contingent of Palo Verde golfers and guests braved the cold overcast skies to participate in the annual Fun Day Charity Event. While a few of us were driven indoors when the rains began, most of the gang carried on to the end, following the bizarre rules of play which were created at our Pro Shop. The winners? The winner was the Sun Lakes Women’s Association which received the proceeds from the event, along with our gratitude to their members for all that they do for our community!

In the afternoon, a Scramble was won by Jim Snyder, Ron Kiel, Dan Eisenzimmer and Keith Wilson with a score of 38.75.

On Saturday, January 27, an afternoon Select-a-Drive battle was won by Ken Pearson, CW Rollins, Jeff Martin and Rodney Deuel with a score of 84.

The 2018 PVMGA President’s Cup Tournament was contested during the early hours of Saturday January 27, and Saturday, February 3.

The winner, with a score of 115, was Wes Davis! Other flight winners were Steve Ryland, Daryl Ramseyer and Richard Koon.

On Saturday, February 3, the afternoon 2 Best-Balls event was won by Ben Caviness, CW Rollins, Bill Lewis and Rodney Deuel with a score of 99.

On Saturday, February 10, in the AM, the 2018 Sweetheart Tournament was affectionately played and won by Ken and Jan Nelson and Bill and Anne Triquart.

The afternoon 2 Best Balls Net match was won by Steve Schneck, Ron Crabtree, Jack Voight and Keith Wilson with a score of 102.

Future events include:

March 10: A morning Scramble followed by a President’s Lunch and a second Scramble in the afternoon

March 17: A 2 Best Balls Net (Ace of Aces) (P) in both the morning and afternoon shotguns

March 22 and 24: A Home & Home tournament with Oakwood CC

We regret to report the passing of Bill Liffrig on February 1. Bill will be missed by his fellow golfers, in addition to other friends and family.

As always, we invite those interested in joining our association to inquire at our Pro Shop or call 480-895-0300 for  information.
