Risen Savior 4th Annual Turkey Drive

On Sunday, November 12, the congregation of Risen Savior Lutheran Church will be donating frozen turkeys or checks to assist the Chandler Food Bank in helping less-fortunate families in our community prepare turkey dinners on Thanksgiving.

Risen Savior is also inviting their neighbors in the Sun Lakes Community to once again join in sharing their blessings by donating a small- to medium-size frozen turkey. The turkeys should cost about $15 to $20 each. For people who wish to donate but prefer not to purchase a frozen turkey, the Food Bank will gladly accept checks in any amount which will be used to buy turkeys. Of course, those who have been blessed with the means to do so may donate as much as they wish. The need is great. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 900 turkeys in holiday food boxes.

Together we can make a substantial difference. Rev. Ron Burcham, Senior Pastor of Risen Savior, commented, “We know that, as individuals, we can make a difference, but if we pool our resources and join together as one, we can have a substantial impact in Chandler neighborhoods this Thanksgiving. Thanks to help from our generous neighbors, our Risen Savior food charities have donated about 20 tons of food to our neighbors in need through the Chandler Food Bank over the last 3-1/2 years.”

Turkeys and checks will be received at the Risen Savior parking lot on Sunday, November 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be a refrigerated truck from the Food Bank on-site to collect the turkeys. All donors will receive a receipt for their tax-deductible donations.

Those who wish to donate but are unable to attend on November 12 may mail their checks to Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85248. Please make the check payable to “AZCEND,” the parent of the Chandler Food Bank. Also, please write, “Attn: Turkey Drive,” on the envelope. One hundred percent of donations and turkeys received will be given directly to the Chandler Food Bank for their emergency food boxes. For further information, please refer to our ad on page ___.

For those who, in previous years, remember making checks payable to the Chandler Christian Community Center (the former name of the parent of the Chandler Food Bank), they have changed their name. At their 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2016, they chose to move forward under the more modern name of AZCEND. Rest assured, they are the same dedicated and caring people who have served the needs of less-fortunate Chandler residents for decades. So this year, let’s all join in contributing to their continued success by making our checks payable to AZCEND.
