Roadrunners RV Club enjoys Benson, Arizona

Pat Prekel, Secretary

In February, for Valentine’s Day, a group of Roadrunners headed south to Benson, AZ, where they enjoyed a fun-filled weekend in spite of the rainy weather. The club was welcomed by the staff at the RV park where they enjoyed bingo on Friday night and a country vocalist and dance on Saturday night. The days included visits to Gammons Gulch, a still active movie set, and Kartchner Caverns which was a big hit for the newer members as well as the repeat visitors.

No rally is complete without food, and there was no shortage as the Wagon Masters crocked and cooked their way through several versions of shredded pork roast complete with slaw, salads and desserts galore. Of course, the “happy hours” are always well attended, and the longtime members enjoyed getting to know the newer members thanks to the organized and outgoing Wagon Master, Ann Selzer. Other Wagon Masters were Bob Selzer, Ron and Mikal Doggett and Don and Lisa Wall.

The Verde Valley was the destination in March where the RV Club enjoyed Montezuma’s Castle, Out-of-Africa Park, golf and a jeep tour in the beautiful area around Sedona.

Upcoming rallies include Gallup and the Canyon de Chelly, Ruidoso and the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, all in New Mexico. This group loves to travel, so if you have an RV and enjoy wandering, join us at one of our meetings. The Sun Lakes Roadrunners RV Club meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. Our next meeting will be April 10, 2018, with refreshments served at 6:30 p.m. and meeting at 7:00 p.m. All prospective members and visitors are welcome.

Recently, we were saddened by the loss of our president, Mike Skibo. Mike devoted many hours over the years to the Roadrunners and often volunteered to act as Wagon Master for one of our rallies and served on the executive board numerous times. He was a friendly and caring person and will be greatly missed by our members.
