On Tuesday, July 17, Adrian Christopher, Director of Community Relations for the Park at Copper Creek, will be the Sun Lakes Rotary Club’s speaker. The Park at Copper Creek is a Koelsch retirement community for independent living. He will be sharing about his life and the excitement that surrounds it. As he says, he has been very fortunate to work and meet with some exciting people throughout his life.
Before working for Koelsch, he’s had an eclectic background. Among other things, he had the opportunity to work with Meadowlark Lemon of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters and exciting comedians such as Jill Kimmel and Chris Bennett who have both performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In addition, he’s also been able to work in the oil field, received his railroad conductor certification and driven an 18-wheeler. He is multi-faceted, and his stories will delight.
On Tuesday, July 31, Tyler Vasquez, Director of Special Events for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley, will speak about this incredible organization and the changes it is making in young people’s lives.
Tyler first attended the Boys & Girls Club in 1993 and was a member of the Gilbert/Mesa branches. Professionally, he has been with the organization for 13 years, working at their Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler and Guadalupe branches. In 2014, he was named Valle Del Sol Hispanic 40-Under-40 for his efforts in the community. On the side, he has worked as a radio host for 101.1, The Beat, and has started a business that broadcasts Cardinals’ road games. Lastly, he is also a former Kyrene Rotary member.
The mission of the local clubs hasn’t changed in the 52 years they’ve operated. They exist to provide a safe place for kids to go and learn. What has changed, or perhaps adapted, is how that learning occurs and what it focuses on. Today, club members get technology training, learn life skills and learn about bullying and respect. The clubs’ goals are to provide productive citizens to the community and preparing teens for jobs.
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes meets for breakfast every Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. in the Oakwood Country Club Ballroom. The meetings start at 7:00 a.m. and end promptly at 8:00 a.m. Cost of breakfast is $13. The June 26 meeting starts at 4:30 p.m. Cost for the hors d’oeuvres is $10.
