It’s that time of the year where we’re all looking forward to all the holiday lights around town, and the opportunity to get together with friends and family to enjoy the Holiday Spirit. Many of us may be traveling, or having guests arriving here to enjoy the good old days and catch up on how things are going with those we don’t get to see too frequently. Our club wishes you all a Happy Holiday Season, and for those traveling, a safe and exciting get away.

We would like to thank those that stopped to chat with us throughout the year, whether at our Open Houses, Community Days or other events. Our meetings are always open and we’ve had several individuals attend who had an interest in our club, or trains in general. Every year I get several phone calls regarding Open Houses in the area where the public has the opportunity to see several of the garden outdoor large scale railroads around the area. Once again, the Arizona Big Train Operators open up their homes for the public to enjoy. There will be several in the Sun Lakes area and many more available around the Valley. The dates they will be open are December 10 and 11 and December 17 and 18 and will be open between 5:30-8:30 p.m. Another suggestion may be a short trip up on the 101 to the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale. It is located on Indian School and Scottsdale Roads. During the holiday season it is well decorated with the holiday light spectacular and it is a great place to visit in the evenings. For the young at heart, there is a wonderful train ride decorated for the occasion that you all would enjoy, plus a carousel, and among other things, there are many exhibits available for you to enjoy.

This is just a sampling of some of the things that have a special meaning at this time of the year. You may want to check your calendars and your local publications for things that may be an interesting way to spend some time with your visitors who are not familiar with the area. The Phoenix Zoo Lights is something special to see in the evenings.
