A message from the General Manager: SLHOA projects

Kelly Haynes, GM

It feels like the New Year just started – but we are already in the beginning of the second quarter of 2016! To date, we have had 16 motions come before the Board, all of which were approved, and most of which were for the completion of projects or purchases for equipment. We had motions covering our swimming pool maintenance, new doors for the Clubhouse, perimeter walls painting, the purchase of a new pizza oven for Mulligans, assessment of part of our facility for a new fitness center, technology upgrades, solar panel work, the purchase of new gym equipment for the men’s fitness center, leveling of the front nine tee boxes on the golf course, and many other projects that are in our operating budget, approved by both the Budget and Finance Committee and the Board of Directors through budget work in November 2015. The Board also passed a motion covering the installation of a Blue Star Memorial plaque at our Veterans Pavilion, which will be installed by the Weeders Garden Club at no cost to the association – what an honor!

In addition to all of these wonderful projects, we will be remodeling our Administrative Services office in the month of July. Upgrading the look of this area and giving our wonderful staff a comfortable and updated area to work in has been a goal of mine for three years – and we finally budgeted for it over the last year – largely using money that we earned through points on our company credit card. It should be noted that monies were budgeted for the physical items and that several of our managers have volunteered their off hours to get this project completed. Talk about teamwork!

I’m very proud of all of our hardworking staff. This is gearing up to be an amazing year – please be a part of it by showing your support. You are appreciated!

Happenings at the Library

Sharon Lavender

Yes, really, summer is here. This is the perfect time of year to read a good book. Visit our library soon and often. Volunteer librarians are available Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. all summer long.

Book donations are the foundation of our library collection. Without your generous donations, there would be no library at SLCC. Thank you so much for your continued support to all your fellow readers in our community.

Recent additions to our new arrivals are Extreme Prey by John Sandford; The Obsession by Nora Roberts (large print); The Last Mile by David Baldacci; Fool Me Once by Haran Coben; The Gangster by Clive Cussler; As Time Goes By written by Mary Higgins Clark (large print); and The Predator by Wilbur Smith.

One last thing. Won’t you please check around your home for any library books that are waiting to be returned?

Donations are always welcome; read them and return them.

Thank you.
