Sun Lakes Drum Circle

Julia Norton

Well, by the time you receive the February Splash, you will be close to having experienced the first of two Blue Moons in 2018. January 1 was the Wolf Moon, and January 30 is the Blue Moon. February, 2018, has no full moon, making March the next month with the second Blue Moon in 2018. A Blue Moon occurs when there are two full moons in one month.

The Sun Lakes Drum/Sound Circle had a great time meeting more new people and seeing some cool homemade musical instruments. There where 15 people who beat some drums, shook some rattles and tapped on some tin cans. Yes, John Seigla surprised us with yet another homemade instrument. Linda Reecer and a few others played their empty coffee canisters and syrup jug. We brought the new year in with some great rounds of sound for ourselves, our community and the universe.

For those of you who wonder what a drum/sound circle is, it is drumming, rattles, bells and whatever you have for musical sound. The intentions are for Spiritual empowerment; a celebration of Mother Earth and the Full Moon and a way to relax, unwind, get out of the house and meet new people. Our meetings are held the Wednesday of the full moon week each month. Come and join us for a short meditation and lots of sounds.

Even though February doesn’t have a full moon, the timing is such that we will have our Drum Circle on Wednesday, February 28, the day before the full moon on March 1. I will be taking this event to the Veterans Oasis Park on Chandler Heights and Lindsey Road, the northeast corner, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ 85249. Bring a drum, rattles, bells or any other kind of musical instrument. I have a few drums and rattles and other toys to play with, but love to see empty coffee containers, or I used a large protein powder drink container to have fun with.
