Sun Lakes Republican Club September 13 meeting

Carolyn McCorkle

The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature special speaker Cathi Herrod, JD, President of the Center for AZ Policy at its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Arizona Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. The public is invited. Cathi is an award-winning public policy leader. Arizona newspapers have recognized her as one of the 10 most influential leaders and as one of the key people “with the juice” at the Arizona Capitol.

Do you understand enough about the current ballot issues to intelligently participate in our Constitutional Republic — a government of the people, by the people and for the people? Every four years, millions of Americans go to the polls with little understanding of the key ballot issues. Cathi will introduce us to the Center for Arizona Policy and review the ballot measures, including the legalization of recreational marijuana initiative – if it survives the current court challenge to make the ballot.

She will also discuss the unique significance of America’s First Amendment as the cornerstone of all our freedoms, and she will demonstrate how our country has strayed in recent months from the founding principles which created our liberty. You will never think about voting the same way again. Please plan to bring a friend and join us for an engaging presentation!

Center for Arizona Policy is a non-profit research and education organization committed to promoting and defending the foundational values of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom; 136 Center for Arizona Policy-supported bills have been passed into law since CAP made its first appearance at the state Capitol in 1995. As a mother, lawyer, and family advocate, Cathi knows that what happens at the State Capitol directly impacts our daily lives.

Cathi joined Center for Arizona Policy as Legislative Counsel in 1997. Now in her 10th year as President, Cathi has set an ambitious 10-year strategic plan for the organization. Vision 2020 calls for Arizona to be a state by 2020 where the sanctity of human life is protected and defended from its very beginning to its natural end. Marriages and families are strengthened and supported by public policy, not attacked or weakened. Religious freedom is affirmed, free from government interference.

In 2008, Cathi led the YESforMarriage Coalition that spearheaded the successful passage of Proposition 102 to define marriage in the Arizona Constitution as only the union of one man and one woman. She is the recipient of the Family Champion Award from Focus on the Family, the William Wilberforce Award from Students for Life of America, and the Deborah Award from Family Life Radio. Alliance Defending Freedom recognized Cathi and CAP with the Alliance Award.
