Sun Lakes, Arizona – “Right now, there is a need in our community to provide aid and support to our neighbors.” We’re talking of a generation that is proud and self-sufficient; they do not often ask for help,” said Dennis White, President of Sun Lakes Country Club’s Member Assistance Club, aka “MAC.”

The MAC Club is a grassroots group of volunteers answering a wide array of requests for help, for example: loss of hearing and/or vision dementia, depression, transportation, elder abuse, house cleaning and repairs.

Per Joe Downs, a MAC volunteer, many requests are “slip and fall” related. We have experience and resources to improve balance and strengthen the resident, in addition to identifying and eliminating physical hazards.

Judy Caniglia, President of the Sun Lakes Women’s Association, decided the MAC Club warranted support and proposed this to the members. They concurred and have contributed $500 to the MAC Club.

The Women’s Association received the funds from CBS KPHO Channel 5 “Pay It Forward,” www.azfamily.com/category/210108/pay-it-forward.

The MAC Club is organizing an October 19 “Community Resource Conference” to be held in the Navajo Room of Sun Lakes Country Club 1. Attendance is limited to the first 200 to obtain free tickets at the Administrative Services desk of SLCC. The primary speaker will be Michael Harper, Director of the Area Agency on Aging. The Office of the Arizona Attorney General and other professional service providers will be there to assist community members.

MAC thanks the Sun Lakes Women’s Association for their generous contribution, making this Community Resource Conference possible.
