The Crystal Card Project reaches $10,000 donation mark

Bobbie Reed

In less than two years from its start, The Crystal Card Project has made and sold 10,000 cards. This translates into $10,000 donated to our charity, My Sister’s Place, a Chandler shelter for victims of domestic violence.

The project began in March of 2016 when several of the Crystal Award honorees initiated a new volunteer effort to make greeting cards fashioned using parts of donated, used greeting cards and sell them to raise money for charity.

At the 2018 Crystal Awards banquet – a community event to honor volunteerism – the group displayed a $10,000 check reflecting the success of this fledgling organization.

To date, over 100 community members have donated cards, and over 50 have participated in making and selling the cards. And the number of volunteers keeps growing.

You can join your Sun Lakes neighbors in supporting this project.

Donate Cards – please consider donating greeting cards (we need the whole card so we can use both the front and the message). There are bins in all the Sun Lakes clubhouses or you can bring your donations to any of our sales or work sessions.

Going home for the summer? Consider saving your cards there and bringing them back next fall.

Make Cards – join us at one of our work sessions held in the Cottonwood Ceramics Room A-8 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Our next sessions are scheduled for Wednesdays, May 16 and 23. If you can’t join us at a work session, there are many things that can be done at home to support the project. Just ask.

Buy Cards – We have four upcoming sales events: May 10 (9:00 a.m. to noon) at the Women’s Connection Breakfast in the Oakwood Ballroom, May 15 (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) in the Renaissance Lobby and May 16 and 17 (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) in the Bradford Room in the Oakwood Clubhouse.

All our sales events and work sessions are listed on our website (www.thecrystalcardproject.org) and our Facebook page. Or you can email us at [email protected] or call Charlene Petragallo at 480-883-0782 if you have questions.
