Safeway donation

Safeway Manager Matt Clarke presented a check for $2,000 to Sun Lakes Fire District Captain Mike Molite, who is also the Treasurer of the Sun Lakes Emergency Relief Fund, which is run by the firefighters union and firefighter Justin Roggeman.

Safeway’s grant underwrites SLFD’s Local 3560’s expenditures for cooking at the annual “Art at the Lakes” charity event. This allows the firefighters to retain that amount in their fund to help people in need. Capt. Molite thanked Safeway for their generosity and community involvement.

Captain Rock celebrates retirement

Brian Curry

Sun Lakes Fire District Captain Brad Rock, who retired in January of this year, was the guest of honor at a recent retirement get-together at the Murphy’s Law restaurant in downtown Chandler. In a tribute to how many lives he touched in his 27-year firematic and emergency medical service career serving Sun Lakes, many of the men and women who had the chance to work alongside him through those years came back to wish him well.
