Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions donate grill to AFMA/Sun Lakes

When the Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club heard that the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority/Sun Lakes station two was without a BBQ grill, they were happy to come to the “rescue” of the firefighters and medics of the district by donating a new grill. “Our emergency personnel live at the firehouse on 48-hour shifts. They eat a majority of their meals in quarters. If this makes it even one bit easier for the men and women that keep our community safe and come to our aid, then we’re happy to do it,” said Brian Curry, Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club President.

AFMA trains with new compression system

Brian Curry

Paramedics and EMTS from the Arizona Fire & Medical Authority in Sun Lakes began classroom and practical training on their newest weapon in dealing with cardiac arrest. The Lucas Chest Compression System will be placed on each of the ambulances here in Sun Lakes. “The Lucas System was one of the first things put into the capital budget when Sun Lakes and North County became a joint powers authority forming AFMA,” said Chris Barden, the EMS Coordinator for AFMA. The Lucas System basically does hydraulic chest compression CPR more effectively and more efficiently than any human being can. As Barden put it, “Humans get tired, machines don’t,” adding that the Lucas System adjusts for all body sizes and frames and can be used to do CPR either with the American Heart Association protocol (30 compressions to two breathes) or continual mechanical chest compressions.
