The Silver Foxes of Sun Lakes retire from performing

Silver Foxes members who performed at Friendship Village and Cottonwood Palo Verde Country Club Christmas Show: Carole Hollar, Suzy Hessman, BeBe Brokop, Veronica Beamer, Merrie Ellen Bergeth, Rae Jean Hennig and Anne Fomo. Not pictured is Sharon Sorensen who has been a Silver Fox for 24 years – our longest active member (but not in age).

The Silver Foxes of Sun Lakes, AZ, were established in 1987 by resident Lorraine Twitchell. After hundreds of performances, the Silver Foxes will continue to dance but not perform. Our founder Lorraine celebrated her 90th birthday last year.

Past performances include: Red Hat Society State Convention, Channel 3 Good Morning Arizona, Arizona senior world’s “Lovin’ Life Expo” in numerous Arizona cities and Nevada and aboard various cruise ships. The Foxes were featured in Phoenix magazine in 2002. They performed at Disneyland in 2004 and 2007 and were invited to entertain at “Senior Winter Break” in Laughlin, NV, in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, appearing at the Flamingo Showroom, Aquarius Hotel/Casino, the new Tropicana Express and Harrah’s Showroom in 2010 and 2012.

The Foxes have always lent their talents for charity events to include appearing with Dick Clark for the Heart Association, helped raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk and performed at the Tempe Cultural Center for the Arts to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

The most rewarding times revolved around entertaining at senior centers, independent and assisted living and rehab centers and especially for the veterans.

The final two performances were at Friendship Village and at the Cottonwood Palo Verde Country Club Christmas Show, both on the same day.

We are grateful for our vocalists Bob Beck and Beverly Borneman who faithfully performed with us so we could offer a complete and versatile show.

We thank all of you who invited us to perform for your event or attended any of our performances. We have had a blast! May your retirement activities be as joyful as ours have been.
