The Strike Zone

Hits and Misses

Irene Olson

The “Pin Spinners,” as the first-place team named themselves, had won the first half of the season and then won the play-off game against the second half winners. Bobbie Rubin said she couldn’t believe her good fortune, as this was her first year back to bowling after a long absence. This is a four-member team league; however, when there are not sufficient bowlers, as with the “Pin Spinners,” they take a vacant at 130 average pins. Each team selects its own creative name.

Starting a new season on Monday, October 1, all signed up bowlers are placed on a new team. Teams are determined by their ending season average, and new members are placed according to their known or last known average. This gives every team the same handicap number, or as closely matched as possible. This provides each team with an equal beginning point. Every four-member team is required to have at least one woman or one man placed on each team.

This is a social, non-sanctioned league with different teammates every year. Bowlers are primarily Sun Lakes residents bowling for fun, exercise and competition. Our league is looking for new bowlers to join us this fall. If you’re new to the area, single or couples, you are all welcome. Even if you haven’t bowled for a while, whether you’re a casual bowler or a serious player, please call and sign up for this fall season which begins bowling on October 1. Sign up now and come to the league meeting on Monday, September 24, at 10:30 a.m. to meet your new teammates and get in some free bowling.

Hits & Misses bowl at Brunswick Zone Kyrene Lanes located in Kyrene Village at 6225 W. Chandler Blvd. on Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m., October 1 through mid-April with a short break at Christmas. The league meeting on September 24 will also be held at this location.

Please call our league secretary Ruth Andersen at 480-760-5554 to sign up for next season or for more information.
