Rose Sumners

Our current show, “Flowers,” hangs on the Art Room wall through February. The popular subject of flowers attracted a multitude of techniques and styles from Celeste Strom’s fractured art to the abstract, realistic, wild and calm. Visit our room off the courtyard in the Cottonwood Club and enjoy our original works.

We welcome new/old member Margo Philbrick, who joined last year but was unable to attend until now. She works with acrylics, watercolors and pastels. Margo has spent 11 years in Sun Lakes after moving here from Chicago.

Diane Hitt led our members through a frolicking mono-print workshop. Freezer paper provided a home for blobs of paint on which painters manipulated Yupo paper through the paint to provide colorful and exotic designs. Too much manipulation developed neutral (muddy) scenes, as well, on these abstract creations.

Celeste Strom will lead us through a demonstration and practice regarding the painting of “Rocks.” These objects are essential to so many paintings of desert, mountains and water. Celest’s expertise will help our paintings avoid the frequent artistic mishap of rocks resembling “potatoes.”

The club celebrates our 25th anniversary with a luncheon at the end of the month. We look forward to our March/April show, “Oceans.” Please stop by our gathering on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. if you are interested in joining the club, or call Diane Hitt at 480-802-7080 for information.
