Weeders Garden Club changes meeting location

Having outgrown its meeting space, Weeders Garden Club is changing its meeting location to the Navajo Room in Sun Lakes Country Club. The first meeting after the summer break will be held Thursday, September 11 at 9:30 a.m.

The program will feature Cauleen Autery’s discussion of ways and means committee plans including a December fundraising project at the Chandler Farmer’s Market. We will then assemble seed boxes for this project. Vice President Pat Murrish will announce the programs and field trips planned for 2014-15.

Fundraising activities support Weeders’ charitable projects which include maintenance of the McCroskey House garden in Chandler’s Tumbleweed Park; Master Gardener and other scholarships; reforestation of state forests through the National Garden Clubs’ Pennies for Pines program; holiday donations for My Sister’s Place, a facility providing temporary shelter to battered women and their children; installation of a Blue Star Memorial honoring veterans; and garden therapy at local care facilities.

Weeders Garden Club is a member of the Arizona Federation of Garden Clubs and the National Garden Clubs. Membership is open to everyone. Although field trips are reserved for members, anyone interested in attending a meeting is welcome. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, September through May. Each meeting features an interesting program and a horticulture presentation.
