Yoga – Vinyasa style

Sheila Axtman

A couple of weeks ago after class, one of my students told me that she had felt too tired to come to class but came anyway. After class, she felt invigorated and energized, no longer tired. If you practice yoga, this has probably happened to you also. One of the many benefits of yoga is the releasing of endorphins in your brain. You feel relaxed, happy and reenergized. Practicing yoga in a group, we often draw energy from and share energy with the people around us. Vinyasa yoga improves proprioception, strengthens and stretches your muscles. You feel younger, you look younger, and you meet some nice people.

Practicing Vinyasa yoga, we do standing, seated and lying Asanas (poses), synchronizing our breathing with our movements. Because this is a dynamic, rather than a static practice, it is not suitable for students who have never done yoga before. However, if you are fit and healthy, Tuesday’s class may be a good fit for you. Both Tuesdays and Thursdays, I will offer modifications so everyone can benefit from their practice, and everyone can explore their limits. Tuesday’s classes will be less challenging than Thursday’s. We will move slower, and I will offer more modifications. Thursday’s classes may move a bit faster, and more challenging variations may be offered.

The yoga group is friendly and welcoming. Please join us.

Class schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. in Room A-6 in Cottonwood

Class fee is $5.00 per class. I have some blocks, straps and blankets available for students to use. There are also a few extra mats. Bring your own mat if you have one. I am an RYT 200(registered yoga teacher).
