Steve and Robyn Moody, Unit 36C Luminaria Walk and Food Drive Co-chairs
To our Sun Lakes communities: You did it again! Another great year of your generosity to AZCEND (our local food bank) was over the top! Our Sun Lakes community just continues to give and give to those in need. Unit 36C is so proud and thankful for your continued support of this annual event. We (Unit 36C) work very hard to provide the beautiful luminaries that surround Diamond Lake by making festive backyard holiday decorations and providing lively entertainment. Thank you all for attending and for your food and monetary donations to AZCEND! This year’s event provided enough non-perishable and monetary donations (used to buy perishable food items such as meat, dairy, fresh fruit, and veggies, etc.) to make 10,379 meal equivalents! That is 2,239 more meal equivalents than last year! The director told us that AZCEND began using the donations the very next week, providing holiday groceries for those in need!
We also want to thank everyone involved, as this is strictly a volunteer event. Everyone who is involved in this endeavor is a volunteer, so 100% of all donations go straight to AZCEND. We want to especially thank our Sun Lakes resident entertainers: Fred Smith (keyboards/sing-along) and Suzy Steinmann along with RoseAnn Kuefner (vocals). We would also like to thank new non-resident volunteers Ron and Linda Anderson and David and Jeannie Cummings (our Santas and Mrs. Clauses) who volunteered to help this year. Thank you to the Sherriff’s Posse volunteers who make the event safe: Glenn Osborne, Ken Hinatsu, Stephen Brown, Michael Johnstone, and Victor Tyus. We also thank the HOA for providing the signage and luminary supplies and, last but not least, all the Unit 36C volunteers who do so much behind the scenes to ensure a successful event.
The Luminaria Committee is already in the planning stages for the 20th year celebration! Don’t miss it. Luminaries are always the second Saturday and Sunday of December. Thank you, and see you next year!
