Desert Threads members had fun sharing their quilting likes, playing a game similar to “Speed Dating.” We also shared our “favorite quilting tool” and why we liked it. Several members brought “Bring and Brag” (show and tell) quilts to show, many of which were recently finished UFOs (unfinished objects), to win prizes and points in the “UFO Challenge.” Our challenge is to list quilts we have started but not finished and receive points for each one finished by December 2022.
At the April 13 meeting, we will get to hear from a representative of Mad B’s Quilt Shop in Mesa. She will tell us about new things in the store to inspire members to make new quilts.
Members recently had some local quilt shows/conventions to enjoy and be inspired. QuiltCon was held by the Modern Quilt Guild, a national organization, at the Phoenix Convention Center in February. Next year, the show will be in Atlanta. Our own Arizona Quilters Guild (AQG) put on a wonderful show at the Mesa Convention Center in March. There was no show by AQG last year due to the pandemic, so this year, the many attendees were happy to see the event take place.
The Desert Threads Chapter meets the second Wednesday morning every month (except summer) from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood at Sun Lakes. We welcome anyone interested in any aspect of quilts and also from outside of Sun Lakes. We have frequent “Sew Days” when members gather to work on projects together, have classes, or make quilts for charities. Desert Threads is a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild, which offers many free, virtual lectures and low-cost classes on a variety of quilting topics. Accomplished and well-known teachers from around the world have classes available for members. For more info, see www.arizonaquiltersguild.org or send email to [email protected].
