The two-day Ryder Cup matches between PVMGA and CMGA were contested on Saturday, April 27, at Cottonwood and Sunday, April 28, at Palo Verde. Format for Saturday was a Select-A-Drive 1 Net Best Ball Match Play. One point awarded for front 9, one point for back 9, and one point for total. One-half point awarded for ties. After Saturday’s play, the CMGA team had what may have been perceived as an insurmountable 48 points to 36 points lead.
On Sunday at Palo Verde, pairings were reset for a 1 Best Ball Net Match Play format again. One point for front 9, one point for back 9, and one point for total. PVMGA men were able to reverse the tide from Saturday with 48 points to CMGA’s 36 points to scratch out a tie with a two-day total of 84 points for each team!
The top point winners for PVMGA over the two days were the teams of Marko Sowa and Ken Ronnfeldt, John Allen and Warren Ball, and Ken Nelson and Joe Byrne with a two-day total of 5-1/2 points for each team.
