Goodbye 2023 and hello 2024! Wow, that went so fast, and here we are ready to start a new season of golf activities with 140 members of which 24 are new this year. We wrapped up 2023 with our yearly Christmas Holiday Scramble and Luncheon. The scramble was called “18 holes of Christmas” where Santa wanted us to do a different challenge on each hole. We had a blast trying to do our best so as not to disappoint Jolly Old Saint Nick! Everyone was a winner, as this article was due before the results were announced.
The morning began with hot coffee and hot chocolate, along with an assortment of breakfast goodies. Everyone dressed for the occasion in their special holiday golf attire! The well-deserved lunch prepared by our wonderful Palo Verde restaurant included Chicken Alfredo, Caesar salad, and garlic bread. Every table had a lovely handmade wreath with lights in the middle and red goody bags for each lady. Thank you to Colleen Mitchell and her committee of Paula Elbery and Karen Bailey for a job well done!
The business meeting for December took place during dessert. Bonnie Moore has graciously agreed to be president again for the 2024 year. Thank you, Bonnie! She will be supported by Becky Commisto (vice President), Barb Byczko (secretary), and Alice Barber (treasurer). Cindy Bosch presented an award to member Jill Brindley. She is the most improved player for 2023. Congratulations, Jill! Our wonderful board would like all members to volunteer for a job or to chair an event so that the work is spread around. Remember, it takes a village to support a golf league!
Every year at Christmas, PVLGA chooses a local charity to support. This year our members helped Sunshine Acres Children’s Home in Mesa. It provides a home for children who are not able to live with family. We gave them grooming supplies, toys for the young ones, and gift cards. It’s a joy to help these children, especially at Christmastime. You can read all about this home online and even schedule a tour.
Happy New Year, golfers!
