A new chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild has formed in the South Chandler, Sun Lakes and surrounding areas. This newest AQG chapter sees its mission as promoting all types of quilting in a friendly, supportive manner within an atmosphere of continuing education. Any current member of the Arizona Quilters Guild (member–at-large or member in another AQG Chapter) is welcome to attend meetings and consider joining this newest, but as yet unnamed, chapter. Anyone interested in quilting or supportive of quilting in all its various forms, including quilt collecting and preservation, is invited to participate. For the next few months, the new chapter will meet on the second Wednesday of each month in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Sun Lakes Clubhouse (Phase 1), off Sun Lakes Boulevard at 9:30 in the morning. The group accepts members from all over and all skill levels. Currently, dues are assessed at $20.00 a year from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2019, in order to pay for meeting rooms and programs. This newest chapter joins 35 other chapters across Arizona and more than 2000 sister and brother quilters. A current or new membership in the parent guild (AQG) is required. First time (first year) members of AQG are accessed a $30.00 membership fee, with yearly AQG renewals at $25.00. For membership, AQG follows the fiscal calendar of July 1 to June 30 of the following year. AQG provides all chapters with meeting place insurance, many guild-sponsored activities, like classes and workshops with national teachers, and classification as a 501(c)3. Once a year in the spring, AQG hosts a nationally-recognized three-day quilt show, and all members are invited, at no extra cost, to enter and display up to three quilts in many different categories, like modern, applique, pieced and miniature to name a few, and receive a critique from two national quilt judges. First, second and third place ribbons are awarded in almost all categories, plus there are demonstrations, group quilts, chapter challenges, youth quilts, vendors, free lectures and low-cost classes. At meetings, Roberts Rules of Order will be followed, and members will have a voice/vote in all chapter policies. Typically, meetings will include a business portion, a show and share and a program. More information about the new chapter’s parent guild (AQG) can be found on the Internet using Arizona Quilting Guild as your search, including how to join AQG and all benefits of membership, like a 10% discount at Joanne’s. Information will also be available at the next meeting of the new chapter: November 14 at 9:30 a.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club (Phase 1). Everyone interested in quilting, especially new or beginning quilters, is invited to come and check us out. For more information, try [email protected].
