Desert Threads Quilt Guild kicks off their September monthly program meeting featuring Kathy O’Brien of the Nimble Thimbles Arizona Quilt Guild (AQG) chapter. She will speak on “Managing Your Fabric Stash and Turning It Into Charity Quilts.”
Two classes in September will focus on helping with quilt entry submission to the AQG Quilt Show held in Mesa on Jan. 16, 17, and 18, 2025. Classes are how to complete AQG forms submission and how to make quilt sleeves for entries. The third class covers freezer paper applique.
The Oct. 9 program covers Walking Foot quilting, led by Mona Adams. Mona is a talented expert quilter, long-armer, and machine embroiderer who has taught numerous classes on all those topics.
Monthly meetings include a fun Show & Tell where inspiring projects and new techniques are shared. Community Service is another component of the guild where quilts are sewn and donated to several local community groups. Hospitality includes time for members to socialize and discuss quilting-related questions. The guild provides education throughout the year taught by members as well as external artists. While members learn new skills or techniques, they also enjoy getting to know fellow quilters. Desert Threads has time reserved in the Oakwood Sewing Room for classes, as well as times where members work on their own projects.
Desert Threads currently has over 50 members living in Sun Lakes and surrounding areas. Desert Threads is a chapter of AQG. Regular program meetings begin on Sept. 11 (the second Wednesday of every month) through May. Meetings are held at the Cottonwood Computer Learning Center Lecture Hall. Members arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m. for registration, and the program begins immediately afterwards. Visitors are always welcome.
