Calling all doll enthusiasts to consider joining the Dolly Dressers, a charity group sponsored by Sun Lakes Sew-N-Sews. You can come to as many as three meetings to see if you want to join. The Dolly Dressers meet on the first Thursday of the month year round in the Sewing & Craft Room of Oakwood, and our next workshop is March 3 at 1 p.m., at which we will be demonstrating hair rescue.
We need doll donations of all types, except dolls with China heads and limbs. We need Barbies, 18-inch dolls from Walmart and Target, and American Girl, Cabbage Patch dolls, Disney dolls, and many others. We repair the dolls and send them to various charities. Each doll goes to her new “mommy” with five to seven changes of clothing, a doll quilt, and often a small cloth bag to hold her treasures.
We are in search of new members. Many hands make light work. Our other main goal is paring gently used books with a small Beanie Baby and getting the books and Beanies out to the schools that need them. For example, books starring Clifford, The Big Red Dog, are paired with a “Clifford” Beanie. Therefore, donations of used children’s books are needed year round.
We would love to meet you and share our knowledge of doll repair. We will be looking out for you, so come over to Oakwood on March 3 at 1 p.m. Many thanks go out to all Sun Lakes residents who left donations for us in the Sewing Room. All donations are appreciated.
