Cheers Trip Opportunities: Several members recently took a cruise to Mexico, while others enjoyed our spring weather at home. Opportunities for day trips in the coming months include Bearizona and Williams, Ariz., on May 23 and Tonto Bridge and Pine Creek Lavender Farm on June 12. Come and enjoy the cool Northern Country with us!
Two very popular trips with Cheers members are also coming soon: The Pageant of the Masters in California on July 26-28 and the Albuquerque Balloon Festival in October.
Cheers travel itineraries are open to all, since we utilize and partner with licensed travel agents. For more information, call Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 or Donna Clucky at Free Spirit Vacations at 480-926-4447, Ext. 2.
Monthly Wine Tasting: On the third Wednesday of each month a club member hosts a wine tasting and potluck dinner in their home. Advance registration is required, and an $8 fee per person is collected to provide funds for the purchase of a variety of wines, selected and presented by the host/hostess. Lorene Roberts serves as the activity leader, supporting and assisting monthly hosts. The host for May 17 will be Mike Swoverland.
Golf Group: The Cheers Golf Group enjoys Friday golf on all the courses of Sun Lakes, as well as surrounding public courses, primarily playing at Sun Lakes Country Club, SunBird, and Bear Creek. With weather improving, we are having great turnouts, usually with two or three groups every week. We have now added the option of playing either 18 or 9 holes. Congratulations to Leanne Weber, who chipped in a birdie from 20 yards off the green, and to Wende Bunting, who sank a long putt for a birdie at the Bear Creek game. After golf, we stop at the club’s lounge for social time to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of the round.
This activity is a Cheers-members-only activity. Please contact Keith Mackenzie, either at our Thursday social meeting at the Oakwood clubhouse or via email at [email protected].
Hamilton High School Donations: Cheers provides charitable support to needy students at Hamilton High School. Voluntary donations of food, household items, and/or cash are provided monthly. These donations are coordinated by Sally Wegryn, who can be reached at 203-470-0733, in collaboration with Hamilton Social Work staff, and are greatly appreciated in our community.
Dine Out: On the fourth Wednesday of each month, members dine out together at a selected restaurant in the community. This activity, coordinated by Robert Russo, provides opportunity to try new restaurants and perhaps new types of cuisine in the company of friends. Advance registration is required to confirm restaurant reservations.
Birthday Celebration: The quarterly birthday celebration, recognizing members with birthdays in April, May, and June, will be on May 21 at the Cottonwood clubhouse. Please contact Elaine Dover, activity lead, for advance registration and payment of $20 for catered dinner and entertainment.
