Come join the fun at the Sun Lakes Country Club dining room on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m.
The Desert Winds Concert Band, under the direction of Bob Myers, will perform for the first time in Sun Lakes. The band was started in 1992 by eight musicians from the Tower Point Resort in Mesa, Ariz., and over the years has grown to approximately 40 members. This accomplished band performs five to six concerts during the winter and spring seasons all over the Valley. Bob conducts the group through a diversity of toe-tapping, hand-clapping, finger-snapping, energetic pieces such as “The Tijuana Brass” and Broadway tunes like “West Side Story,” and entertains you with the Big Band sound of Glenn Miller. There will be featured soloists on many of the numbers.
The band is a volunteer group from throughout the Valley, including Sun Lakes, ranging from retired music teachers, professional musicians, to players who have rekindled their love for playing music. Some of the musicians are full-time residents, and others are snowbirds from all around the United States and Canada. Bob has conducted this band for 10 years after having taught music for 35 years in New Mexico. The band always welcomes anyone who would like to pick up their instruments and join in the joy of playing music. They hold practice every Wednesday morning during the season, November through March, at 5540 E. Main Street in Mesa.
The concert is free of charge; however, donations to help defray the band’s expenses will be graciously accepted. So, mark your calendars and come out for an afternoon of enjoyable music with the Desert Wind Concert Band on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m., at the Sun Lakes Country Club dining room.
