It has been documented that music as therapy reduces stress, can improve mental health, and can improve memory and cognition. Those who especially benefit include persons with Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulty with verbal communication, and insomnia. Diana Perez sees these benefits at The Perfect Place, an adult care center here in Chandler, where she volunteers her music monthly, playing the piano and singing. The participants always look forward to Diana’s monthly performances and the sing-alongs they do with her. But music is beneficial to almost everybody, as many people find it brings back fond memories from their past.
Mark your calendars! Diana will be performing at the Arizona Classic Jazz Festival for her seventh season with her band Sentimental Breeze. The festival will be Nov. 2 through Nov. 5 at the Crown Plaza Phoenix-Chandler Golf Resort in Chandler. Her band will perform four sets with one set focusing on “The Best of the Forties,” and other sets including the Fifties and the Sixties era of music.
Diana also has several other performances scheduled at Robson Reserve here in Sun Lakes, as well as other nearby assisted living communities. She finds a huge appreciation for music in these communities.
Diana is also a frequent performer at Unity Church here in Sun Lakes. It is located in Sun Lakes Country Club, Phase I. It is a church with a beautiful message and friendly people. You might want to give Unity a try if you are looking for a fun church. Diana will be there on April 16 at 10 a.m.
