The Agavé Quilters Guild met on Wednesday, March 2. Our guest speaker was Lori Schlage, manager of Chandler 35th Avenue Sew and Vac. Lori brought lots of new notions, fabrics, pre-cuts, and books for purchase at 20% off the entire order.
As part of our community service efforts, team members Sherri Tanner, Betty Bogaard, Georgia Hartman, and Judy Crumpler delivered 102 quilts to Valley Wise hospital. Using kits made up by the team with donated fabric and batting, guild members can choose between two patterns and create a baby-sized quilt for charity. Since beginning this organization within our guild, 2,659 quilts have been delivered to various organizations through Agavé community service.
Our next meeting will be held on April 6, and our featured speaker will be guild member Marti Kellogg, who will do a trunk show featuring the wonderful quilters she has worked with along her artistic journey.
Marti has been quilting since the mid-1970s, beginning with hand piecing before learning to machine quilt. In recent years, she has been making art and collage quilts and incorporates machine embroidery in her designs.
Agavé Quilters Guild is open to new members of all skill levels. General meetings are held September through May on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m., in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club.
Each meeting features a guest speaker, a brief business update from the board members, and a “show and tell” session allowing members to share their projects with the group. At our May meeting, members will install new executive board members for the upcoming two years.
