IronOaks News
Joe D’Amore, IronOaks Board President
Rain. Rain. And more rain. Wasn’t it great?! Because of the deadline for this article, I don’t know if the July rains continued into August. I sure hope so. It sure was nice to get a little wet out there. I reveled in it, and I hope you did as well.
I long for the day that there is no need to discuss COVID-19. But that day is not here yet, thanks primarily to the highly-infectious and transmittable Delta strain. Data indicates that those fully vaccinated are very well protected and, by and large, do not need hospitalization even if they contract the virus. On the other hand, the unvaccinated are not only getting the virus, but are also being hospitalized. And many are not making it. So, please get vaccinated.
Fun stuff continues here in IronOaks with the return in July of the Concert Series and dance bands at both of our restaurants, Stone & Barrel at Oakwood and Grill on the Green at Ironwood. One fun event that returned, and that I particularly enjoy, is Open Mic Night. It is now being hosted by Kevin Crum, who also frequently performs solo at our restaurants as well as with his dance band The Cover Ups. The reopening of Open Mic was on Tuesday, July 27, and it was well attended. We all had a great time. We will have Open Mics on the fourth Tuesday of each month at our Grill on the Green restaurant in Ironwood from 5 until 8 p.m. If you play an instrument, sing, or both, come on down. It is a very welcoming crowd. Don’t play or sing? Come on down for the enjoyable entertainment and a great meal at the restaurant. And you never know what entertainment might happen. Before COVID, at one of our Open Mics, I had the distinct pleasure of playing backup piano for a retired first chair oboist from a symphony orchestra in the Northwest. He performed two numbers, “Summertime” and “Georgia on My Mind.” Of course, he received standing ovations for both numbers, which were truly spirit lifting. But even if there are only performances from us amateurs, I am sure you will find much to enjoy. And on those occasions when the ukulele group performs, it’s a hoot.
Have fun and stay safe out there.
