Last month four of our IWLN ladies played in the SaddleBrooke Ladies Invitational Tournament, with Deborah Greenwood’s team coming in fourth in their flight and Denise Weibel’s team coming in third. Also, Oakwood Golf Course hosted the Sun Lakes Rotary 30th Annual Golf Tournament, and two of our ladies from IWLN entered the Ladies Division and came in third place. Congratulations to Ann Gavin and Sally Dixon, and congratulations to all who won. Way to go! IWLN has been the recipient of many invitations from other ladies leagues in the Valley because of our reputation for good sportsmanship and camaraderie, and we encourage our members to participate and enjoy the fun, and, of course, we do just that.
April 10 was the day of our annual Spring Luncheon and awards presentation, which was held at the Poolside venue after our golf game. It will likely be our last visit there before demo and renovation starts at the end of April. The Recreation Committee always does a great job of decorating, meal planning, and keeping us entertained, and this day was no different. The Treasurer’s Report was discussed, as well as the outside invitationals, and then we went on to the awards. Medallion winners Mary Medved for low net and Jacque Smith for low gross were presented awards, followed by the award for the Most Improved Golfer going to Nancy Hooke. Winners of the ringers, birdies, chip-ins, and “game of the day” were announced and prizes given out. Lastly, the newest members of our “Diva Club” (members who are over 80 years of age) were introduced, which now brings the total number of divas to 16.
Golf fact: You can recognize an amateur golfer because he/she addresses the ball twice—once before swinging and once again after swinging.
